The Glienicke Bridge connects the cities of Berlin and Potsdam across the Havel river. During the Cold War Potsdam was in East Germany, whereas the Berlin side of the bridge was part of the American Sector of West Berlin.
After several spy exchanges had taken place across this bridge it was given the nickname "Bridge of Spies", which also became the title of the 2015 movie about the Abel/Powers exchange in 1962.
The Glienicke Bridge lies on the outskirts of Berlin - it will take about 40 mins by car from Berlin's city centre to reach it. You would usually combine this with a visit to Potsdam, the former second residence town of the Prussian kings that has a wealth of historic palaces and gardens as well as an attractive town centre which make a visit very worthwhile.
The recording was made on the way back to Berlin returning from a live-guided day excursion to Potsdam with a private coach on 29 December 2019.
