Gauteng's MEC for Finance Lebogang Maile has refuted claims that the province is on the brink of bankruptcy.
Maile says the province still has close to R53 billion available to be spent until the end of March this year.
But on the 26th of September last year, Maile painted a picture of a province struggling financially.
Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development Mzwanele Nyhontso says Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini's decision to dissolve or suspend the Ingonyama Trust Board is irregular.
Nyhontso says only after informing the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal and Land Reform Minister and other stakeholders does the king have the power to suspend board members.
The king had clarified that he could not work with the current board and had previously called for its removal.
Nyhontso says the king has involved his lawyers but is adamant that the INgonyama Trust Board is still functional.
The Johannesburg High Court recently declared unlawful the city's council decision to award the mayor ten bodyguards.
Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero says they are not appealing this ruling.
This court judgment has drawn attention to the significant amount of money the city spends on protecting its elected officials. Morero says he currently has 6 bodyguards
