Sony has been releasing compact mirrorless cameras which have taken the market by storm, and there's no better example of this than the Sony a6400. It's an APS-C sensor camera with 24 megapixels that can shoot 1080p video at 60 frames per second and 4K video at 30 frames per second, making it great for professionals and vloggers alike. It also has an effective continuous autofocus system which means you can use it to shoot action scenes with ease.
Body
Travel photography is something that many people like to do, but sometimes we don’t want to bring along our bulky cameras with all of their weight and accessories. A smaller travel camera that can still capture high-quality images is often a great alternative. The Sony a6400 has received positive reviews from those who have bought it and use it regularly as both an everyday point-and-shoot and as a travel photographer. Here are some of its best features
Lenses
A large majority of cameras have an interchangeable lens feature. When choosing a travel camera, keep in mind that you’ll need to take all lenses you want to use with you, as well as carry them around if you’re not using them. Also be aware that more lenses mean a heavier bag. If you choose to go with just one lens (ideal for hiking and backpacking trips), be sure it’s wide enough for your needs—most people prefer a focal length of at least 25mm on full-frame cameras or 24mm on APS-C cameras.
Accessories
There are lots of external accessories that can enhance your experience with your new toy. The number one accessory, though, is extra memory card storage. The Sony a6400 camera does not have two slots for SD cards, so you’ll want to bring extra storage with you on a trip. Take at least twice as much as you think you need—you won’t regret it if your plane gets delayed and you get stuck in an airport overnight.
What I love about it
Overall, I love that it’s simple. It has minimal controls and takes great photos without fuss. It does not have in-body stabilization, which would have allowed me to take handheld images without much worry of having blurred images because of movement. But it's largely competent for run and gun photo and video shoots, where you probably won’t have much time to get into taking pictures anyway. Just turn it on and go! If you ever do have time though, there are also plenty of controls should you need them. Shutter speed and exposure settings are right at your fingertips, as well as built-in apps that can make adjusting settings easy if needed or wanted.
What I don’t like about it
The main issue I have with traveling with a small mirrorless camera like the Sony a6400 is that I have to bring too many lenses. I used to love bringing my full-frame Sony a7c and several lenses along for any trip, but with micro four-thirds and smaller mirrorless cameras, I find myself only wanting to bring one lens. While my Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 kit lens isn’t terrible by any means, it’s not always easy to get close-up shots of things or properly frame up images while on vacation. To fix that problem, though, all you need is one additional lens - in my case, it was either going to be a Sony 18-105 f/4.
Bottom line
Overall, The Sony a6400 is an incredible travel camera. With its compact body and lightweight design, it’s an easy addition to your carry-on luggage. And at 24 megapixels, you don’t need to worry about not being able to capture crisp photos in low-light situations. There are only two downsides to consider when purchasing the Sony a6400: firstly, it does not come with built-in image stabilization; secondly, there are some features that can be difficult to use for people who aren’t familiar with advanced photography techniques or settings (for example, determining manual exposure). However, these drawbacks shouldn’t deter you from choosing a mirrorless camera – after all, all professional photographers rely on them every day!
