According to the CDC, seven in ten car seats are put in wrong.
Local firefighters set up a car seat checkpoint Thursday in West Asheville trying to reduce that number. Officials spent the afternoon talking to parents and examining buckles and straps outside Asheville City Preschool.
Child safety seats are notoriously tricky to install, but it's estimated they reduce the risk of death for infants in a collision by over 70 percent.
Firefighters are reminding folks that you can pull into just about any EMS or fire station to get your car seats and booster seats checked out anytime. They say it's a quick errand that will only take a few minutes.
