The European Union must be ready to admit new member states by 2030, said European Council President Charles Michel.
Michel stated that the six Western Balkan states—Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia—must enact reforms to ensure an independent judiciary, combat organized crime and corruption, and align their foreign policy with EU member states in order to join the bloc.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed gratitude to Charles Michel.
Serbia's Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, welcomed the prospect of establishing a timeframe hoping for a faster process.
Besides the Balkan states, Charles Michel mentioned some countries like Ukraine and Moldova could become new EU members by 2030.
