How to farm 50000 (50 thousand) steamworks fuel per hour using an exploit in the guiding lands. Hopefully I've put this out early enough for you to take advantage of!
This took me my entire weekend, so please consider liking/subscribing and sharing this around to everyone you know who might need mantles/decorations. Thanks!
TL;DR:
Guiding lands mining nodes are on a cyclic loop of tiers which progress as you finish mining/gathering at them. yellow to orange to red and back to yellow. You can prevent the progression by not finishing the final gather of a node. So, by only gathering 3 out of 4 times at a mining node (with geo, otherwise 2/3) and then moving on, it stays at its current level
This lets you be perpetually at red level, which means you can always mine the coal chunks for steamworks, which are worth 500 fuel a pop. This, combined with my previous testing of mantle cooldown reduction stacking with the assassins hood mantle, some further developments in my understanding of how these nodes operate and reset, and some other optimisations + 50 hours spent trying to optimise my route, let me produce a loop that yields 50K fuel every hour on average
The loop is:
Fast travel to base camp 3
Coral reef mining nodes
Tundra mining nodes
Fast travel to base camp 3
Jump down the hole in the camp
Volcano mining nodes
Rotten vale mining nodes
Fast travel to base camp 3
Do this optimally with full assassins hood uptime, and you take something like 15 seconds more than the reset timer to complete the loop, which is pretty darn efficient. If you don't have the AC mantle unlocked, just skip the tundra altogether (fast travel from coral to camp 3 and jump down the whole, and continue from there) - this still yields something like 40k fuel per hour.
Don't forget your palico and tailraider - it gives something like a 5% boost to total fuel collected which isn't insignificant. I think that's everything, lmk if I missed anything important

Spreadsheet info:
I have a spreadsheet which collects all sorts of data on Monster Hunter World Iceborne that people ask about a lot - things like the materials needed to upgrade the best charms (e.g. handicraft, expert etc), a list of all the guiding land monster drops and gathering nodes (plus it's searchable), what materials you need for every possible augment (attack, affinity, defence, health, slot, element/status) in the game, etc:

It also includes things like a list of ALL the 4 slot decorations (including even the rare 12 ones which ONLY drop from sealed feystones) so you know the best deco's to aim for when farming. It even has detailed images for the guiding land gathering nodes (the one's that drop materials like the guiding dragonbones/crystals etc) which you need for custom weapon upgrades/augments!
My list of guiding land drops can be sorted either by drop type (so it finds the monster to fight for a particular part) or you can use it to just find the parts belonging to any monster (no more pulling your hair out over how to get those Enchanting Finehide/Trancehide for your health augments!). This goes up to and includes the tempered elders (speaking of which, check out my 5 slot tempered investigation farming macro if you haven't already!)
It also has a Safi'Jiiva relic checklist to easily monitor which awakened weapons you're missing from the new siege!
Feel free to point people to this doc if you think they would find the information useful :D
