In Adtelligent's new mini-series, BUTSEEYA, Dr. Carolyn Cooper discusses Jamaican Patois & Education
Dr. Carolyn Cooper is a Professor Emerita of Literary and Cultural Studies at UWI Mona Jamaica. She has facilitated many lecture series on Jamaican Language with writers, poets and dancehall artistes like Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man, and writes a Jamaica Gleaner column every month.
Why is it that Jamaican Language which is spoken at home by many Jamaican children is not being taken seriously when they are at school? Why is it that we recognize the greatness in European literary figures like Shakespeare but not the greatness in our own culture?
Jamaica's motto is Out of Many One People, yet only one language is being taught in school: English. Dr. Cooper elaborates on her truth that Jamaican is a language and invites us to see its legitimacy. Dr. Carolyn Cooper discusses this and more in Adtelligent's new mini-series, BUTSEEYA.
