Three children who saw Virgin Mary
This event, known as the Fatima Incident, took place in the Portuguese village of Fatima in 1917. Three shepherd children from the village, Lucia dos Santos and siblings Jacinta and Francisco Marto, claimed to have seen the Virgin Mary. According to church records, the first appearance to Jacinta and Francisco Marto occurred on May 13, 1917. On the 100th anniversary of this event, Pope Francis visited the pilgrimage site in Portugal and declared the two shepherd children as saints during his visit.
