Power of Women Festival is Thanet’s major arts festival celebrating International Women’s Day!
All ages and all genders are welcome. Most events are free.
The festival is running from Friday 4th to Tuesday 8th March 2022.
You can explore all the events at powthanet.com. Here is some of what you can enjoy at the festival.
Friday 4th March
On Friday 4th March at 5.30pm join us for a lantern procession from Margate’s Nayland Rock Shelter to Turner Contemporary, where there will be poetry, a choir, dance and the official launch of the festival with speeches.
Throughout the weekend you can enjoy art exhibitions across Thanet.
Reclaim the Narrative is at Turner Contemporary in Margate
Power of Bodies exhibition is at The Margate School
Invisible Women is at Powell Cotton Museum in Birchington
Menopause: The Power of Connection is at Hold Creative Spaces, Ramsgate
An exhibition by Broadstairs College is in Joseph Wales Studio, Margate
There are Youth Art Trails in the shop windows of Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate High Streets, and a Youth photography exhibition, ‘Honouring Lana’ in the window of Margate House.
On Turner Contemporary’s terrace is Inspiring Windows, an exhibition of Primary School pupil’s artworks depicting women who inspire them.
On Saturday 5th March there is art for beginners at 11am with Julia Rogers in Hold Creative Spaces in Ramsgate.
At 1pm is a photography workshop at the Margate School.
At 3pm, Power of Words storytelling takes place at Ramsgate’s Small Boat Owners Club.
At 4pm, Power of Movement, a creative workshop for families, is at Ramsgate Music Hall, followed at 6pm by Power of Youth, a performance of music by Pie Factory Music Girls Programme and Broadstairs college.
On Sunday 6th March at 11am is a fabric sculpture workshop at Hold Creative Spaces, Ramsgate.
At 2pm is a selection of short films exploring identity and belonging at Palace Cinema, Broadstairs.
Throughout the afternoon at Pierremont Hall, Broadstairs, is Give / Take / Mother / Space, a half day creative retreat for parents.
And that evening is our headliner concert with Self Esteem, The Cocoa Butter Club and Margate’s Social Singing Choir at Margate Winter Gardens.
On Monday 7th is our digital day. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to enjoy specially curated online content, including the latest episodes of our Power of Women podcast and wellbeing videos from faces you may recognise.
On Tuesday 8th March, join us to celebrate International Women’s Day at Windmill Community Gardens in Margate. Throughout the day is a folklore exhibition which you can explore.
At 10am is a kids music workshop, at 11am a folklore workshop, and at 1pm a talk on Thanet’s trees.
At 2pm there is a movement in nature workshop for all, and at 3pm you can choose between yoga and guided relaxation or a planting and foraging workshop.
In the evening join us at Margate Leisure Centre for Rhymes with Orange, a stand up poetry night to celebrate International Women’s Day!
Later in March, we have online events for men and women exploring internalised sexism.
Throughout March our 2022 Fringe Festival is running, with over 35 events throughout Thanet and online, all programmed by people in our local community.
