Kurdish fighters in the northern Syrian city of Hasaka have launched a major offensive to capture the government-held areas.
The Kurdish YPG militia has demanded that pro-government forces leave the mostly-Kurdish controlled province.
In recent days, the Syrian government targeted the US-supported Kurdish fighters with air strikes for the first time in the five-year-long civil war.
