Cycling in Japan | The Yodo River Cycle Road
If you are planning on Cycling in Japan across the Kansai region then there is a good chance that you'll use the network of Riverside Cycle Roads and Paths that connect the area.
In this video, we look at the Yodo River Cycle Road (淀川サイクリングロード) that connects Osaka (大阪) and Kyoto (京都). The whole river is approximately 40 kilometers long but in this video, we cycle the main 30-kilometer section between the Kema Lock entrance point and Sakura-de-ai Hall near Yawata. It is here at Yawata that the Katsura River (桂川), Kizu River (木津川), and the Uji River (宇治川) converge with the Yodo River (淀川).
For those planning to cycle beyond Yawata, the options almost feel limitless with Kyoto, Nara, and Lake Biwa all within a reasonable distance. Most local riders probably head along the scenic Katsura River (桂川) path to Arashiyama (嵐山), which lies west of Kyoto (京都) and has its own cycle path. There are also lots of little gems in and around Yawata that are worth checking out. More to come on those in future videos.
The Yodo River Cycle Road does get a bad rap sometimes due to the vehicle prevention barriers and strong winds but with no cars and traffic lights, it provides a very useful stepping stone between Osaka and the Ancient Capitals of Nara and Kyoto.
