Addressing the concluding session of the International Lawyers’ Conference in New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah explained how over the last nine years the government has endeavoured to update itself with the need of the hour. Amit Shah cited the examples of amendments made to the Arbitration Law, introducing the Mediation Law and the Jan Vishwas Bill. HM Amit Shah said, “Whether it is GST or Insolvency Act, the changes being made in these are because of the errors faced after their implementation... It is important for any government or a law-making agency to admit that any law is not in its final form. Changes should be made according to the issues which come up over time after their implementation because the goal of making a law is to establish a smooth system, not to establish the supremacy of the lawmakers...”He further said, “This conference is held at a very important and appropriate time... Because this is the year when our Constitution will complete 75 years. This is the year in which the Parliament is going to transform the three main laws of the Criminal Justice System... The PM spoke about women-led development in the G20 and placed it in front of the world. To fulfil this, India has started 33 pc participation of women in the law-making process in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha...”
