(8 Dec 1960) Lancaster House, London: Britain's Prime Minister came to open the conference called to review the Federation's constitution, a vital and difficult conference, as he emphasised in his opening address. In addition to Dr Hastings Banda, leader of the Malawi Congress Party of Nyasaland and Sir Roy Welensky, Prime Minister of the Rhodesia and Nyasaland Federation, African delegates included Kenneth Kaunda, a leader from Northern Rhodesia, Mr Joshua Nkomo of Southern Rhodesia, Sir Edgar Whitehead, Southern Rhodesia's Premier, Mr Nkumbula, African National Congress, and for the United Kingdom, Iain Macleod, Duncan Sandys and the Premier.
