STORYLINE:
Italian riot police clashed with protesters against world capitalism again on Saturday as the Group of Eight (G-8) industrialised states ploughed ahead with their high-security summit after an activist's death at its doorstep.
Police guarding the fortified summit "red zone" around the heart of Genoa fired tear gas at the crowds after about two thousand demonstrators broke off from a 50-thousand-strong march to smash windows and start fires.
The demonstration, the third in as many days, came only hours after the G8 leaders rejected calls to suspend their annual conclave because police shot dead an Italian protester attacking their jeep during violent unrest on Friday.
