For the first time in our solar system, an object has been detected traveling from interstellar space, and some astronomers think it could be from aliens. So, what is it? Oumuamua was first spotted in the solar system in the solar year of 20 17, and it appears to be traveling faster than gravity alone . That means it was receiving an additional push. According to Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, the extra push comes from the sun's radiation pressure, which causes it to act like a sail, moving along with the sun's light.
But in order for this extra push to work, the object would need to be less than 1 millimeter thick, even though it's over 100 meters long.
In fact, earlier this year, scientists proposed a project called Project Lyra, in which we would send a spacecraft chasing Oumuama to find the answers we've all been searching for.
