Four hundred people, mostly Americans returning from summer vacations in Greece, boarded Olympic Airways flight 411 to New York on a sweltering August day at Ellinikon International Airport. The crew of the long-haul transatlantic aircraft numbered eighteen. The pilot in charge of operating the 370-ton jumbo aircraft was Sifis Migadis. With thirty-two years of flying experience, he was accompanied by a co-pilot, Constantinos Fikardos, with whom he had flown extensively.
In today's video, we'll explore the events of that day, which will live on in the memories of the 418 passengers on board the Olympic Airways Boeing 747, that happened in only ninety-three seconds.
