Indonesia's Marapi volcano erupted for the second time in just over a month on Sunday, according to the country's geological agency.
Indonesia's Marapi volcano erupted for the second time in as many weeks, the country's geological agency said on Sunday.
The 2,891-meter-high (9,500-foot) volcano began erupting at 6 a.m. local time (6 p.m. ET), according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
According to Reuters, the volcano in West Sumatra province has erupted at least twice.
Reuters also reported that nearby homes, vehicles and evacuation tents set up by the local disaster agency were covered in volcanic ash.
The ministry warned residents and visitors not to enter the 4.5-kilometer (2.8-mile) radius of Verbeek Crater, where the eruption occurred, and told residents in nearby communities to wear masks in case ash fell.
Some residents went to health facilities to have respiratory checks, Reuters added.
