STORYLINE
The Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, said on Thursday he was in touch with his "friends" about initiating a dialogue with China over the ongoing unrest in Tibet.
His comments came as protesters took to the streets across Asia to demonstrate against China's crackdown on protests in Tibet.
Speaking to reporters before a week-long prayer session he has been conducting in New Delhi, the Dalai Lama said the Chinese government "must accept reality."
"I simply appealed to many (of) my friends," he said.
"I think one word I want to express - I think this is time the Chinese government or concerned officials I think must accept the reality. I think that's important. Now in any case we are (in the) 21st century, pretending or lies cannot work."
Chinese authorities claim the Dalai Lama's followers orchestrated the violence that broke out 14 March following a series of protests in Tibet's capital, Lhasa.
Meanwhile, in Nepal and South Korea people gathered to demonstrate against China's crackdown on Tibetan protests.
In Nepal police arrested 12 Tibetans protesting in front of the Chinese Embassy's Visa Office in Katmandu.
Police were posted on the streets leading to the office, about two kilometres (1.2 miles) from the main embassy.
About 20 Tibetans took part in the protest, small demonstration compared to other demonstrations by Tibetan refugees and monks in Katmandu in the days following China's crackdown on protests in Tibet.
Police did not immediately comment on the arrests, but they normally arrest protesters and release them the same day without charge.
