Lohatane needs to walk for two hours to reach the next source of clean water. Before the drought got worse, she was confident that planting crops and farming would provide for her family. "Agriculture always provided my ancestors and us with an easy life," she explains, "but the weather is not normal!". All her attempts to plant maize and potatoes have failed due to the dry soil and lack of rain. For now, the family relies on cactus fruitwood.
