Liz Ryan of Oakstone Winery, El Dorado County, describes their Alicante Bouschet. "We do this wine under our Obscurity Cellars Label. Obscurity Cellars was founded in 2003 to showcase obscure, strange varietals that are not usually done on their own, but are typically blended away."

Alicante Bouschet is one of those varietals that was always used as a blending grape because the flesh and the juice inside the grape itself is actually red. All the other red grapes get their color from the skins... So Alicante Bouschet was a really good blending grape for that.

It’s a bold wine, its got a lot of good structure to it, nice pepper in the finish. It’s a wine to try it with lamb chops, ...big bold dishes are where you’d pair your Alicante Buschet with.

Its something different and not everybody’s got it. So you should have one! Cheers!
