Kamal Hors plays the oud in an enchanting way and searches for new ways of making music and composing in his music. This has already resulted in many collaborations with other disciplines, such as theater and dance, where he experiments with Arabic music in form and content. Hors is accompanied by Michiel Hollanders on guitar and lauta (Greek lute), Pieter de Mast on flutes and alto saxophone, Sebastiaan van Delft on piano and Sandip Bhattacharya on tabla (percussion).

The performance will be concluded by a joint performance by the quintet and the other artists of the Dancing Strings festival. They play a piece of music specially composed by Hors: "The Dance of the Chergui".

During its first edition Dancing Strings Festival presents the 'ud as a modern musical instrument, an instrument that is open to new influences and experimentation with other art disciplines. The 'ud is a fretless short neck lute with five double strings, a single bass string and a pear-shaped sound box, which is said to have been around for over 2,500 years. The cliché of the 'ud as just an Arabic instrument is outdated. In Dancing Strings Festival, contemporary lute players from home and abroad show how a musical tradition develops into a modern movement with exciting compositions.
