I ended up using Formby's Low-Gloss Tung Oil Finish on this Black Walnut tabletop after sanding down with 220 grit sandpaper. The picture at the end is how the table looked after only this first initial coat. I ended up applying 7 more coats of Tung Oil and finishing it off with 2 coats Helmsman Spar Urethane to increase the durability since dining table tops are sure to receive some abuse.
