I love the ghostly old image of the horse and cart in Castle Square, and it took me two trips to get a new photo to match up with it. This is one of the most historic places in the UK, let alone in Lincoln. The Roman Legions walked this way, Saxons and Vikings plundered the city, then William the Conqueror came and built the Castle, and set in motion events that led to the building of the Cathedral too. Battles that changed the course of British history were fought in this square, and ordinary people went about their lives here too for centuries, just as they do today. I can't stand here without imagining all those that were here before me, the history crackles in the very air
