Why personalization does not work
If you think about it, it is not surprising that personalization does not work. The reason a retailer applies personalization is that he sees the obvious: if he shows the same message to all his customers, it will be irrelevant for most of them.
So they put a marketeer to work to create personas and to create special content for all those different personas. It is the same as segmentation where you create different segments for your customers.
Imagine having 10 million clients and you create 50 different personas.
Then you still will show the same message to 200 000 people, and that message will still be irrelevant for most of those people.
So this brings me to a question: can’t we do this smarter or better?
Yes, it is possible, and I will show you some good examples.
They present to every individual, the right products, at the perfect moment, via the most suitable channel, in real-time.
Now, the interesting question is: how are you able to give the right recommendation of products to the right person at the right moment?
This is the part where artificial intelligence comes in.
Because artificial intelligence is capable of finding out, which visitor is interested in which product, even if this visitor is anonymous.
