The other failed rituals that happen all over the other world are actually references to classic movie monsters and horrors. The Kyoto ritual is a clear reference to the Ringu lore. Stockholm’s monster is a reference to John Carpenter’s The Thing. Madrid’s reference is clearly Dracula. Finally, Buenos Aires is referring to King Kong. You can actually see a tie-in to the Left 4 Dead video game series when all the creatures are in their elevator cells. You can briefly see a Tank, Boomer, Witch, and Hunter. Originally, their cameo was supposed to go along with an expansion pack for the game, but the pack was canceled when MGM hit financial issues.
