While the Moon is now a quiet, barren landscape, it once experienced significant volcanic activity. Most of this occurred billions of years ago, well before the age of dinosaurs. During the early history of the Moon, volcanic eruptions created vast basalt plains known as "maria," resulting from lava flows that filled large impact basins. By the time dinosaurs roamed the Earth, the Moon had largely cooled, and volcanic activity had diminished significantly.
