February 15, 2023: Today begins a two-day stretch of severe weather from the Southern Plains/Southeast to the Midwest. The SPC has outlined an Enhanced Risk (level 3 of 5) for today (Wednesday, Feb. 15) across eastern Arkansas/northwest Mississippi/western Tennessee, with a large Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) extending back into southeast Oklahoma/north and east Texas/northern Louisiana. The first round of storms today will fire along the dryline in southern Oklahoma/north Texas late this afternoon with a threat for tornadoes, damaging winds, and large (perhaps significant) hail. Then, a separate round of warm advection storms will fire this evening across the Enhanced Risk area with the threat for tornadoes (perhaps some strong) and damaging winds. The threat will continue into tomorrow, as an Enhanced Risk extends from Mississippi/Alabama all the way into Indiana/Ohio. Ongoing storms along the eastward-progressing cold front will pose a severe risk, as will possible discrete warm sector supercells across Mississippi and Alabama, where a strong tornado threat exists. Mostly damaging winds and a few tornadoes will be possible into the Ohio Valley region.
