The pricing of the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z makes it a very tempting upgrade from the NS200 – and in many ways, it is. But there's a crucial difference you must resolve for yourself before you think the 400 is better than the 200. First, the NS200 will feel like a lower quality product than the NS400Z straightaway. This is because the 400 relies on Bajaj's current capabilities whereas the 200 shows what Bajaj could manage 12 years ago. It's lamentable that the quality upgrades – scruffy plastics everywhere, average fit-finish – has not improved with time. Second, the NS400Z has a lot more performance, be it torque or horsepower and you will feel this difference instantly. It makes the 400 a lot easier to ride in traffic and it has a lot more in reserve at highway speeds too. But pay attention to point three. Third, but do get a test ride. The NS200 has a distinctly sportier character which the NS400Z cannot access because the throttle response is just too slow, even in Sport mode. This is a key difference and it's important you get a test ride. The NS400Z should have, automatically been the more fun motorcycle to ride, but there will be those among who you'll find the Rs 30,000-odd extra you'd pay for the 400 hard to justify.
