The Venezuelan Migrant Registration Process was completed in both Port of Spain and San Fernando at 1:45am on Saturday.
The Ministry of National Security said Venezuelans who were in the line at 5pm on Friday were taken into the Centre and processed late into the night.
In Tobago, sometime before the 5pm cut-off, Venezuelans were escorted to the nearby "Port Mall" Facility as a humane gesture. The group comprised Venezuelans who had already been registered and were merely seeking shelter and some who had not as yet been registered.
This move, however, was not authorised and upon hearing of the action, the Minister of National Security instructed that those who were moved from the Tobago Registration Centre be registered on Saturday.
When TTT News visited the Port Mall Facility in Tobago on Saturday, we found that the registration started around 8am.
We were told that there were over 300 migrants waiting to be registered, and that persons who slept in other places were asked to return promptly at 7am in order to begin the process. They were given bands to ensure that they were not new registrants.
As the day progressed, some migrants did not have all copies of their documents and in an effort to hasten the process, a copier was setup by some helpful citizens.
It is unclear how long it will take to complete the registration for the numbers at Port Mall.
Assistance continues to pour in from various NGOs, stakeholders and private citizens who contributed food, water, clothes toiletries and other necessities for the Venezuelan migrants.
