Hello everyone. FamilySearch Freak here with my very first video. I love, love, love working in FamilySearch and want to show you all how easy it can be to navigate this fabulous website. I’ll keep my videos short. Just two or three minutes each. Let’s get started.
So you just created your FamilySearch account. Now you start adding people to your family tree.
Click on Family Tree, then on Tree. The first thing you’re going to do is add yourself.
To protect your privacy and the privacy of living people that you enter in your tree, only you will be able to see the information for yourself and for any living person that you create.
To begin adding more family members you can do so from the Tree or from the details section of a person’s profile. Scroll down to the Family Member’s section. Let’s add my husband. Click add spouse.
Enter the first and last name and mark if they are deceased or living. Then enter the birth and death information that you know. Using standard formats for dates and places in Family Tree improves the accuracy and searchability of the information you enter.
Enter the date then choose the standardized form of the date. When entering a place begin typing the name of the city, town or state. As you type, the system displays a menu with the available standards. Click the correct one or the one that is the most correct.
As you can see there are lots of places with the name of Nashville. For today we’re going to click on the first one. In another video I’ll talk about using the additional find options.
My husband is living so I’m going to select Living, then next. Now you are going to repeat that process by adding your parents then their parents and so on and so on.
In my next video I’ll show you what to do when you enter a family member and that person is already in the Family Tree.
