This video explains the concept of Poisson's ratio. Poisson's ratio is the poison effect in which material contracted in one direction and expand in another direction. When a tensile load is applied to a material, it tries to expand in a longitudinal direction and contracted in lateral direction. The ratio of lateral strain to longitudinal strain is known as Poisson's ratio. Poisson ratio ranges from -1 to 0.5 for all materials but most of the material has a poison ratio within the range of 0-0.5. The cork is the only material that has a Poisson's ratio of 0.
