Regardless of the amazing individuals are on your team, what fancy tools they use, or what processes you employ when building a product, the one thing that is bound to smother progress is a lack of trust across your team. Trust amongst teams is the underpinning to successful product design.
In this interactive session, Alex Britez, Principal Design Director at Macmillan Learning, will discuss two factors that have a direct impact on building trust with teams: transparency and empathy. A lack in either of these creates pressure against communication, especially around decision making, by far the most important activity that any product team needs to do well, and where many fall flat. Alex will highlight some practical activities that he has successfully used with teams. These exercises are designed to target both transparency and empathy, ultimately increasing the group's psychological safety and resulting in better product design output.
At Macmillan Learning, Alex Britez leads a team of designers that work on digital products for higher education. Alex has broad experience with 15 years spent as a full-stack software developer, followed by working as a research and development designer where he found his love for human-centric design. Currently, he spends most of his days working with teams and doing his best to create an environment where they could all bring their best self.
