A full walkthrough of a TransPennine Express CAF Civity class 397 Nova 2 (5 carriage) train.
This video is a full walkthrough starting in first class class and working through the train to end in standard class through all 5 carriages.
The formation of the TPW class 397 trains is A, B, C, D, E. First class is located in carriage E with the other 4 carriages being standard class. First class is in a 2+1 layout and standard class is in a 2+2 layout with a high volume of table/bay seating and a smaller number of airline seats.
The interior of the TPE 397 has the same interior style as other TPE trains including the class 802 Nova 1 IET and class 185 Desiro and previously the Nova 3 Mark 5A. This interior is planned for a refresh in 2025/2026.
The class 397 operate on the TPE West Coast Main Line route from Manchester Airport/Piccadilly to Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley via Preston and Carlisle as well as on the WCML Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central services. These trains operate the majority of services on TPE WCML routes with class 802 operating limited numbers of services. This is the only route the 397 can operate on due to being fully electrified.
The class 387 are planned to remian with TPE as they were inteded to replace the 4 carriage class 350 Desiro on this route.
Note that this video was filmed in September 2022 as on a WCML service from Scotland to Manchester Airport when it was between Piccadilly and the Airport.
