This library book sale combined all of BookTrib’s favorite things: book browsing, book lovers, and community empowerment!
Every year, the Pequot Library in Southport, CT hosts their Summer Book Sale, welcoming book lovers from all over the East Coast with a selection of over 100,000 items in 60 categories (!!!) All proceeds from the sale support Pequot Library’s books, services, programs, and exhibitions– which served more than 45,000 participants this year. During this sale the Books for Teachers program was in full swing, actively providing eligible CT teachers with $100 worth of books– that’s 20 bags for teachers who attend on “fill a bag for $5”' day like we did!
We visited on the sale’s last day, and there was still so much to choose from. Entire tables dedicated to spy-espionage books! Vintage records! Beautiful coffee table books! A seemingly endless kids’ book section for readers of all ages! There was something for everyone here– and SO much that the BookTrib team snapped up! We picked up 2 poetry books, 4 short story collections, 5 fiction books, and 3 art books… for $5!
Often, libraries don’t have the funding to market these events– so take this as a reminder to check in with your local libraries + make a plan to visit and support their book sales! It’s a great way to give back, try new genres without breaking the bank, and meet other local readers who just might become friends 📚✨
