(Bethesda, MD) Adam Kuszak, Ph.D., health policy analyst in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), talks about the principles of dietary supplement characterization by introducing the concepts of identity, purity, quality, and composition. Dr. Kuszak provides an overview of the analytical challenges and needs in dietary supplement research, and the importance of standards and reference materials. He also describes the work of the federal agencies and non-government organizations which develop analytical methods and reference materials to enhance dietary supplement research and assess product quality.
This presentation is part of the 2017 Mary Frances Picciano Dietary Supplement Research Practicum sponsored by the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS).
