Police have identified the suspected robber who died at a Boost Mobile store Monday night in Overland Park. Police say Deshawn Brim, of Raytown, died after the store employee shot him. Matt Flener explores self defense laws in Kansas and what business owners nearby are saying.
Crime scene tape strung around the parking lot is not the way he wanted to start his day at the Ultimate Hair Salon. He no longer works late hours at his business three doors down, knowing the Boost Mobile store has become the target of robbers. Police say suspected armed robber Deshawn Brim died when a store employee shot him.
Brandan: “It should be a no charge. Unless there are other factors out there that we don’t know about.”
Attorney Brandan Davies says the store employee will most likely be protected under Kansas self defense and stand your ground laws.
Brandan: “This seems like a pretty straight forward deal. This seems like exactly why guns exist and why people have them, to protect themselves in a particular situation.”
The store employee facing no charges as of now. As other stores nearby try to return to business. Overland Park police say an autopsy is being performed on the man who died. The case will also be turned over to the Johnson County prosecutor.
