“ Any society that does not innovate, stagnates. Make India the most attractive destination for innovation. Innovate in India and innovate for humanity ”. This vision was presented by PM Modi at the 56th annual convocation of IIT-Bombay. A movement to transform ideas into reality has now spread through the country and India has been a breeding ground for innovation, creation and invention.
To foster innovation and entrepreneurship, the Central government launched India’s flagship initiative “Atal Innovation Mission.” Since its inception, this mission’s various initiatives have achieved notable victories. In the Global Innovation Index, India ranked from a position of 81 to 48 in the year 2020, a jump of 33 positions
The efforts for creating invention systems have facilitated knowledge consumption and have helped in bringing about transformation within the country. Atal Innovation Mission has created a vibrant ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country. AIM’s organizational approach has led to the emergence of a nation of innovators and job creators.
Let's get to know the major initiatives taken by Atal Innovation Mission.
Over the past four years, AIM has established 7259 Atal Tinkering Labs in schools across 650 districts. These labs have provided access to emerging technologies for over 3.5 million students. Out of 115 Aspirational Districts, 112 districts have Atal Tinkering Labs coverage. AIM has launched a first of its kind Artificial Intelligence Do-It-Yourself learning module that has stimulated a problem solving innovative mindset among the students.
Under this Mission, more than 60 Atal Incubators are operationalized in universities, Institutions and corporates. These incubators have fostered over 2000 world-class innovative start-ups, of which 625 are led by women. These startups have become scalable and sustainable enterprises of the country.
To encourage a spirit of entrepreneurship in the unserved regions of India, the Central government has established Atal Community Innovation Centre that has provided enabling infrastructure and facilitating environment for innovation.
To create product and service innovations having a national socio-economic impact, AIM has launched over 24 Atal New India Challenges and more than 15 Defence challenges and has also helped other ministries in boosting innovation and entrepreneurship.
For research & innovation and to increase the competitiveness of Indian startups, the Central government also launched the ARISE program under Aatmanirbhar Bharat. This program has provided a fast track to the growth of Indian MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) sector.
For the success of all these initiatives, AIM launched one of the largest mentor engagement and management programs “Mentor India – The mentors of Change”. Atal Innovation Mission has provided an expression of effective reorganization and fruitful innovation to the country. This initiative has truly managed to encourage innovation across the length and breadth of India.
