Christy Watson, Teagasc Drystock Advisor, Co. Kildare talks about the importance of slurry when planning to ensure enough silage for next winter's fodder. Silage fields have the greatest demand for nutrients and by prioritising slurry onto the silage fields, ideally by low emission slurry spreading (LESS), this will greatly reduce fertiliser costs. Get slurry out early in good growing conditions and top up with fertiliser nitrogen.
