Frustrated parents now have a high-tech option to help them install baby seats in their vehicle.
STORY-LINE:
The 4 Moms Self Installing Car Seat is featuring at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
"Four out of five car seats are installed incorrectly and today they are 32 million kids riding around in car seats and that means 24 million of them are in car seats that are installed wrong. And that's not okay. So the 4 Moms Self Installing Car Seat sows that problem because by the fact that we've built a robot into the base so the car seat installs itself. So every single time that the product is installed it is installed correctly," says Rob Daley, CEO and Co-founder of 4 Moms.
The device uses a combination of vehicle information, sensing technology and motors to enable the car seat to be properly installed in a car.
" So I click install and one of the first things it's going to do is measure the ground angle of the car, in this case it's on a 5° angle. It takes that information and sends it to the car seat which is then used in all the mathematical calculations and actually go through the installation. Now that that's complete we'll continue and now it will ask you to scan the VIN number of the car. Here we determine the type of vehicle that were in and that we have the latch anchors that are needed and were able to give the consumer advice on where to actually place the seat in their vehicle. So I push the button it runs through the process of verifying that those latches are connected. Once that's done it will prompt me to push the button in order to level and tension it. So when I push the button here it actually starts to go through the process of levelling the seat. Once it reaches the correct level it will go through the process of tensioning and it only takes a few seconds. When he gets that part of the process complete it prompts us to actually connect the carrier into the base, so as I do that it will actually verify the installation and it will go through and check the latch anchors, the level, the tension and the connection between the carrier and the base and the overall battery level of the system and verify the fact that it's actually installed and ready to go," says Daley.
CES runs until January 9th.
