The last week was dominated by events on the saintly Franciscan friar of the 18th century, bl. Junipero Serra.

Research about the future saint seem to give divergent images of who he was. These scholars, historians and archeologists came to Rome to set the record straight.

Archeologist Ruben Mendoza, who is of Yaqui Indian and Mexican American heritage, at first learnt hatred for Serra until he dived deeper into his life. Now he is an adamant defender of the saint’s work.
