Whittwood Town Center is a 65-acre open-air shopping center in Whittier, Southeast Los Angeles County, California, located on the southwest corner of Whittier Boulevard and Santa Gertrudes Avenue.

Whittwood was built in the 1961 as a competitor to The Quad at Whittier. Whittwood was originally an open-air mall, which was initially a success. It was renovated and transformed into an enclosed mall in the 1970s. The shopping center has a gross leasable area of 841,936 square feet and is close to I-5, I-10 and I-605. Anchor stores include Target, Kohl's, JC Penney, Sears, PetSmart and CVS Pharmacy.



Whittier is a city in Southern California located within Los Angeles County, California. Whittier was incorporated in February 1898 and became a charter city in 1955. The city is named for the Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier and is home to Whittier College.

There are several neighborhoods in Whittier. The area centered around Philadelphia Street and Greenleaf Avenue is known as Uptown Whittier and contains the traditional central business core. Just north of Uptown Whittier are the neighborhoods known as Central Park and Hadley-Greenleaf. These districts contain many Craftsman and Spanish Colonial Revival homes. In and abutting the hills north of the historic districts is Starlite Estates.

Businesses and industries in the area include 436 professional services, 845 retail stores, 200 family-type restaurants, 37 manufacturing plants, 7 hotels and motels, 2 new automobile dealerships and over 303 specialty shops and boutiques, predominantly located in Uptown Whittier, the Quad shopping mall, as well as the Whittwood Town Center.
