It was a perfect role for Karl Malden, and for Michael Douglas it was the role that led to stardom. And, it was a Quinn Martin production. The location photography was first-rate, the stories had just the right amount of personal drama to leaven the procedural aspects, and some impressive guest stars visited the streets during its five years. John Kerr, a star of 'South Pacific' who left acting behind to become an attorney, took a recurring role as the D.A. Also recurring was lovely Darlene Carr as Karl Malden's daughter. Pat Williams wrote the jazzy, energetic theme, memorably combining electronics with brass. The opening was basically unchanged over four seasons. In the fifth, when Richard Hatch became Malden's partner, the theme was refreshed with a new arrangement. You'll hear both versions plus the end credits. Enjoy this visit to the Streets of San Francisco (a Quinn Martin Production).
