(26 Jun 2021) Supporters of presidential candidate Pedro Castillo gathered in Lima on Saturday to demand authorities rule on the results of the June 6 election.
Castillo was up against right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori in the second round of the country's presidential election last month.
According to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) official results, Castillo received 50.125% of the votes and Fujimori received 49.875%.
However no winner was declared.
Popular Force Party and Keiko Fujimori impeached a small fraction of the votes, but claimed large-scale election fraud. The complaints had delayed the official results from the National Election Jury.
After 20 days without a result, some of the Free Peru party and Pedro Castillo supporters said they are ready to go on a national strike on July 6.
Miguel Grados Serruche, coordinator of Free Peru supporters in Lima, said they wan't to bury "Fujimorism for good" in Peru.
