In this webinar, Environmental Public Health and Healthy Homes came together to deliver their unique perspectives on rural and frontier communities. We partnered with the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) to host three subject matter experts who delivered presentations on several different aspects of rural and frontier communities.
First, subject matter expert, Romona Williams, from Mississippi Communities United for Prosperity, provided a presentation encompassing a healthy homes perspective on lead, acquiring funding opportunities, and building partnerships in rural and frontier communities. Next, subject matter expert Len Wishart, from Albemarle Housing Improvement Program in Virginia, focused on lead-based paint, mold, deferred maintenance, clutter, water intrusion, vermin, and different methods for weatherization. Lastly, Brandon Kemperman, from Public Health – Seattle & King County, render an environmental public health overview of opportunities and barriers faced by the environmental public health workforce who specialize in rural and frontier communities, and strategies King County has implemented to overcome and positively impact public health outcomes.
