ESR filing season

Not only does the beginning of December 2021 mark the start of the festive season, for a lot of UAE businesses it also means it is ESR filing season again.

Businesses that are in scope of the Economic Substance Regulations are required to file an ESR report on an annual basis. For the financial year ending 31 December 2020 businesses will need to submit their ESR reports by 31 December 2021. Throughout 2021, numerous businesses have incurred ESR penalties, either due to a lack of reporting or as a result of committing ESR reporting errors. Recently, reports have come out of the Federal Tax Authority initiating ESR audits.
