On Friday the 7th of December An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar Visited the Downs GAA Club. An
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar officially opened the pitch and walkway lighting. After visiting Mullingar
engineering firm TEG, who announced 40 new jobs. There was a positive turnout of local children
and adults to the official opening. A plaque was unveiled by An Taoiseach Mr. Leo Varadkar T.D. to
commemorate the official opening of the Floodlights at the club. Lights and walking track will be on
from dusk until 10:30pm every night during the winter months. Open to all existing and new club
members welcome. An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar also visited the club house and it's amenities. The
club celebrated its 125th anniversary this year. It’s benefited from funding under the Sports Capital
Programme. The Downs GAA Club is thriving thanks to the local community.
