This video uses animations and descriptions to show how characteristics of cleft palate speech (compensatory errors) are made. These "errors" are sometimes produced by patients with cleft palate and may continue after the cleft palate is repaired. The purpose of speech therapy is to work with the patient to learn how to create velopharyngeal closure and appropriate articulatory placement. The models are Teachers College Columbia University graduate students in speech-language pathology.
