📣On May 26, 2023, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) - made an announcement to strengthen Family Class Immigration in Canada.

The new and improved measures include:

✅Faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing times for spousal applicants.
✅New and dedicated processing tools for spousal TRV applicants
✅A new open work permit for spousal and family class applicants.
✅Open work permit extensions for open work permit holders expiring between August 1 and the end of 2023.

Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Minister Fraser, has introduced measures to expedite the processing of Temporary Resident Visas (TRV) for families awaiting permanent residence approval. The goal is to reunite families sooner, with most applications processed within 30 days. Spouses and dependents will receive tailored processing measures, resulting in a 93% approval rate.

Additionally, open work permits are now available for spouses and dependent children of sponsors in Canada with temporary resident status. These permits can be obtained upon submission of a complete permanent residence application. Furthermore, open work permit holders, including spousal applicants, can extend their permits for an additional 18 months if they expire between August 2023 and the year’s end. These initiatives support family reunification and address labor shortages in Canada.
