Off-road autonomous driving test conducted by University of Washington researchers from the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering and the Applied Physics Laboratory as part of the DARPA RACER program.
Camera and LIDAR segmentation, cost-mapping, and planning are important elements that enable UW’s vehicle to autonomously navigate and traverse natural terrain. The autonomous vehicle uses onboard sensors and compute and does not reference GPS or predefined maps for localization. The goal of this test is to run the course aggressively and with no human interventions.
