Narrow networks, also referred to as select or targeted networks, have become part of our health care delivery system after implementation of the Affordable Care Act. These provider networks were developed in response to rising costs and the imperative of health plans to provide their Commercial and Health Benefit Exchange members a less costly choice of hospitals, physicians, and ancillary services. In this Health Forum, our panel will discuss whether the number of physicians and hospitals included is adequate, if quality is being maintained, and what the reaction to these networks has been among state regulators, private advocates, and patients.
